Our sweet baby boy, Brooks Michael Sanford, was born May 17, 2019 at 3:15 am, weighing 9.6lbs and measuring 21 inches long. We’d been longing for his arrival for what seemed like an eternity and the feeling that we had the first time we saw him is something I’ll never forget.
After the complications that occurred during my labor with Aiden and ultimately having to deliver her via C-section, we decided that we wanted to have another C-section to avoid any problems with Brooks. We scheduled the surgery for May 17that 9:30 am.
We went to bed Thursday night, ready to go to the hospital for our scheduled surgery the next morning. Like most things in life, plans don’t always go as expected and I woke up around 2:30 am in terrible pain. It took three breath-taking contractions, that were roughly three minutes apart, for me to realize that we needed to get to the hospital.
The twenty-minute car ride to the hospital felt like the longest car ride of my life. When we arrived at the hospital, my water broke in the lobby and I became violently ill. We were rushed back to a room and told that I was already 8-9 centimeters dilated.
At this point, it was pure chaos and the nurses and hospital staff were rushing around trying to call our doctor, prep for surgery, check us in, etc. and during the midst of the chaos (which was only about 20 minutes after we arrived) baby was coming, whether we were ready or not. With no time to get to the OR and it being to late for doctors to administer an epidural, I was left with only one choice – push this baby out naturally.
I was terrified, but so ready for the pain to be over. In about 15 minutes, baby boy was born. Although natural labor was so painful during the process, I couldn’t be more thankful that this was the way I delivered our boy.
Although our delivery was nothing like we planned, I am so thankful that Brooks chose to enter the world the way he did. Being clear headed, drug free and completely immersed in the moment made the entire birth process magical.
I feel so incredibly grateful for this new addition to our family. I’m looking forward to this amazing new chapter of our lives. My heart is so full.
