Behind the Scenes Beauty Products

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

In addition to my everyday make up routine, I’ve developed what I’m going to refer to as a “behind the scenes” skin care/personal care routine. I am always on the hunt for reasonably priced products and these are some of my current favorites:

In between our move and all of the day-to-do craziness, I stopped using my Clarisonic for a few months. I just recently started using it again and was immediately reminded how much I love it. It gives my face a much deeper clean compared to when I just wash it with my hands, helps remove dead skin and reduces breakouts. I’ve had mine for a few years (it’s linked) but there is a newer, more high-tech version available now.

I’ve tried a ton of different face masks, at all different price points, and this one is (by far) my favorite. Every time I use it, I notice a significant difference in my skin. It one hundred percent helps bring the gunk that’s clogging my pores to the surface and gets rid of dead skin. You can use it as a full mask or as a spot treatment if you’ve only got a few problem areas.

If you can’t already tell, I absolutely love the Peter Thomas Roth products. Whether you have full-blown acne, get cold sores or just have the occasional breakout every now and then, I honestly believe that everyone should have a box of these in their medicine cabinet - they are life changing! I usually put them on before bed and when I wake up in the morning, I peel the dot off and the problem area is gone/healed. I swear these are magic dots and I don’t know how I ever survived without them!

I’ve always had a really hard time finding a moisturizer that works for my skin. I= have combination skin, so a moisturizer is almost always too heavy or not enough. I finally discovered this Clinique moisturizer and absolutely love it! It’s the perfect weight and I never feel like I’m lacking moisturizer/drowning in it.

About a month ago, I took my eyelash extensions off and felt like a naked mole rat. I immediately jumped online and tried to find an eyelash growth serum that wasn’t going to cost as much as a new car. I absolutely LOVE this eyelash serum and noticed a huge difference in less than two weeks. I’ve used Latisse for years and this works just as good, if not better and is half the price.

I’ve tried out a few different eye masks, at all different price points and found that these worked the best. They are very comparable to (and in my opinion, work better than) the Peter Thomas Roth 24k Gold Eye Masks. Plus, they are half the price. One of the biggest differences between these and the Peter Thomas Roth eye masks is that these are individually packaged, which helps keep them full of moisture – I felt like the PTR ones dried out. When you open the individual package, these start out plump/squishy and when it’s time to take them off, they’re dry and paper-thin. I loved being able to see all of that moisturizer get sucked up by my skin!

I’ve been using these for years, but I’ve recently had a few people ask what I do for whitening treatments. I think these strips work great for an at-home whitening treatment. However, I will say that you have to be very careful about how long you leave these on for. If you leave them on for too long, you’ll be in severe pain for a few days.

I was so skeptical of the charcoal toothpastes and thought that they were bad for you. I found this all-natural toothpaste at the store and was shocked at how great it works. If you’re consistent about using it, you’ll notice a difference in about a week or less. My only complaint would be that I didn’t feel like it gave me the same clean feeling as normal toothpaste, so I usually use my electric toothbrush/normal toothpaste and then use this toothpaste with a regular toothbrush afterwards.
